The rise of the simple thematic conjugation
Abstract: New insights and recent discussions in the literature make this an appropriate moment to re-engage with the problem of simple thematic presents of the type *bhéreti — how they arose in PIE and whether they existed before the separation of Anatolian from the other languages. I will offer a “take” on these maters that, despite some possible surprises, upholds the basic normality of Anatolian as a branch of the IE family.
